Hudson’s Bay Financial Services is happy to offer a unique insurance solution that combines three different products. Since this is a new offering in the Canadian market, we’ve received some common questions about our Life, Disability and Income (LDI) Insurance.
Is disability insurance a taxable benefit?
Generally, if you pay the entire amount of the disability premium yourself, your disability benefits will be tax-free.
How does this differ from other disability insurance?
Disability insurance is one type of insurance available. LDI Insurance includes three different types of coverage within a single policy: life, disability and income insurance.
When does coverage begin?
Coverage begins as soon as your application is approved online. Most individuals are approved within minutes, and medical questions or examinations are not required.
How does the income benefit affect my Employment Insurance (EI)?
LDI Insurance does not affect any EI benefits to which you may be entitled — it’s separate, supplementary insurance.
What if I move to another country for work?
If you are transferred or move from Canada after purchasing insurance, you are still covered for the duration of your policy.
Am I eligible for income insurance if I am a seasonal worker or self-employed?
No. Unfortunately, seasonal and self-employed workers, independent contractors and freelance workers are not eligible for income insurance. However, they are eligible for life and disability insurance.
This unique insurance through Hudson’s Bay Financial Services provides a monthly benefit in the event you can’t work due to an accident, disability or involuntary job loss such as a layoff. You also have the option to include life insurance coverage.
