Many families look forward to this time of year as it’s a great opportunity to get away and spend quality time together. Whether you do this at home or travel to a cool destination, safety is always top of mind for parents. That means getting a travel policy after you select your destination. We can certainly take care of the former for you, but we only hope we can help you with these family-friendly travel ideas.

1. Tofino’s Surf

It might be freezing where you are, but in Tofino, it’s not too cold for a surf! The small town on the west coast of Vancouver Island would make an excellent March break destination for families. Known for its breathtaking beaches, stunning sunsets, and world-class surfing, Tofino offers a range of family-friendly activities, including whale watching, kayaking, hiking, and beachcombing. Spend some time exploring the cultural and historical heritage of the town itself by visiting museums, galleries, and cultural events.

2. Quebec’s Famous Ice Hotel

Located just outside of Quebec City, the famous Quebec Ice Hotel is another great option for a family trip. Made entirely of ice and snow, this hotel offers a totally unique experience to its visitors. If you’re a family of adventure, you’ll have a blast on the ice slides, skating and ice fishing. If you need some relaxation time, enjoy hot tubs, saunas, and a cozy bar and restaurant. The hotel also offers guided tours, which provide a fascinating insight into the construction and maintenance of the hotel. Beyond the hotel, you can go snowshoeing, snowboarding, and skiing. It’s the perfect blend of excitement, relaxation, and wonder for families looking for unforgettable memories during their March break.

3. A Week in Toronto

You could visit world-renowned museums, including the ROM and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Or, you could check out some famous attractions like the CN Tower, the Toronto Islands, and Ripley’s Aquarium. Plus, there are a bunch of parks and playgrounds for extra outdoor family fun. 4. Tintin’s Belgian Trail

If you’re looking for something totally different (and a fan of The Adventures of Tintin), follow the trail of Tintin in Belgium. While Tintin travelled to countries all over the world, Belgium is his birthplace and a family- and budget-friendly destination. You could start at the Belgian Comic Strip Center, which is a 5-minute stroll from the Grand Place. Next, you could check out the Musee Herge located in the Brussels suburb of Louvain-la-Neuve. And if you’re a true Tintin fan, consider staying in the Hotel Amigo which has Tintin-themed deluxe rooms. If you’re not a die-hard Tintin fan, make your own adventure exploring beautiful Belgium.

5. Cruise the Caribbean

If none of these adventures are for you, what about a good ol’ Caribbean cruise? The cruise ships of today are so massive and packed with things to do, you’ll never run out of kid-friendly options. There’s swimming, rock climbing, Broadway-style shows, water slides, live music, and more. As the ship ports in different countries along the way, your children can get a bit of a geography lesson while on break. Then, everyone can hit the beautiful beaches and explore the local culture. The warm weather, tropical beaches, and crystal-clear water make this destination the perfect escape from the cold Canadian winter!

Wherever you go, stay safe!

Whichever destination you choose, travel there safely. As parents, you don’t need to be told to keep safety the main priority, but you do need to make sure you book the family’s travel insurance policy in time for the trip. After all, travelling with kids is a little more unpredictable
