To help maintain your mental health while working from home, consider the following tips:
Establish a Routine with Clear Boundaries
When you don’t leave the house to go to work, it can be hard to establish a routine that creates clear boundaries between home time and work time.
- Designate a dedicated workspace in your home.
- Act as if you’re going into the office by showering, getting dressed and eating breakfast. It will help you get into a “professional” mindset.
- Clearly define your working hours to your boss, colleagues and family.
During a regular day in the office, you probably took a number of mini-breaks without realizing it. Walking to the kitchen to get a drink or stopping by a colleague’s office to chat provided a break from work and a little exercise. Make sure to schedule little breaks throughout the day to clear your mind and get your body moving. You could take a quick walk outside or spend some time with children or pets.

Staying hydrated throughout the day is important for general health and well-being. As you adapt to working from home, make sure you’re regularly drinking water and scheduling time for exercise.

It’s essential to treat your mental health as important as your physical health. If at any time you find yourself struggling while working from home, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. You can contact your employer, family members, friends or access online mental health resources.
